Daughters of Glorious Jesus Revive Gospel Classics to Inspire Younger Fans

Legendary Ghanaian gospel trio Daughters of Glorious Jesus have announced plans to reimagine some of their classic hits in contemporary styles.

Speaking on Hitz FM’s Hitz Praise Zone, lead singer Cynthia Appiadu explained that the move aims to connect with younger audiences while preserving the timeless Christian message that has defined their music for over three decades.

“We want the younger generation to know that these songs still carry God’s power and anointing. Our goal is to present them in a style they can easily relate to, so they don’t feel left behind. Some of these songs were released seven or even nine years ago, and many young people may never have heard them.”

Daughters of Glorious Jesus likened their new song making approach to the biblical story of Isaac digging the old wells his father Abraham had dug.

“We are trying to rediscover the old wells,” they explained. “When Isaac came of age, he inherited the well his father Abraham had dug, which contained still waters. He didn’t abandon it, instead, he dug deeper and found that there was still water. In the same way, because our songs are based on the Word of God, they remain relevant even in today’s world.”

Group member Edna Sarpong added that the trio will also shoot music videos for many songs from their earlier catalogue, most of which never received proper visuals.

“Compared to our earlier years, when we produced only one or two music videos, we have so many songs without visuals,” Sarpong said. “Many people from the older generation have often asked why some of their favourite songs don’t have videos. That’s why we want to create visuals for all those songs.”

Beyond reaching new listeners, the group says the project is part of their mission to leave a lasting spiritual legacy.

“Daughters of Glorious Jesus won’t be here forever,” the trio noted. “We want to leave behind a rich inheritance for the fourth and fifth generations  so they will remember that some people once stood together in one accord to glorify God, and that will inspire them as well.”

Daughters of Glorious Jesus, comprising Cynthia Appiadu, Edna Sarpong, and Monica Owusu Ansah, have been one of Ghana’s most influential gospel groups for more than 30 years with 13 albums. Popular in the early 90s for their Christ-centred messages of salvation, peace, and faith, the trio remains known for evergreen hits such as “Bebre”, “Nea Yɛhu”, “Wo Ntaban”, and “Mebo Yesu Din Daa”.
