After a tense first half, the first-ever FIFA World Cup Halftime Show produced by Global Citizen, sponsored by Topps, and curated by Coldplay’s Chris Martin took centre stage. The spectacle lasted 11 minutes and 44 seconds, extending the traditional 15-minute break to nearly 27 minutes and setting a new record for the longest halftime in World Cup history.
Jennifer Hudson opened the evening with a soulful rendition of the American national anthem. The main show kicked off with Madonna, who emerged from the player tunnel for an energetic performance of her hit “Music,” joined by Brazilian football legends and World Cup winners Ronaldinho Gaúcho and Ronaldo Nazário.

The set then transitioned into a choral and rock rendition of “Seven Nation Army” by the Sesame Street Muppets, conducted by Gustavo Dudamel with the New York Philharmonic and the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela. BTS followed with a high-energy medley featuring “Dynamite.” Next, a brief comedic sketch by Ted Lasso star Jason Sudeikis introduced Justin Bieber, who delivered an acoustic performance of “Everything Hallelujah.”
Shakira brought high energy with her official FIFA World Cup anthem, joined by Nigeria’s Burna Boy and the Triplets Ghetto Kids. Coldplay frontman Chris Martin then performed a new song titled “We Dance” with the PS22 Chorus.
The closing ceremony featured a powerful monologue by Tom Cruise on football’s power to unite nations. Additional performances came from Nicole Scherzinger, Robbie Williams, Laura Pausini, and Post Malone, who performed hits including “Wow” and “Sunflower” featuring Swae Lee from Marvel’s “Into the Spider-Verse” film.
