The brothers of late actor Chadwick Boseman, have filed a legal petition seeking to remove his widow as administrator of his multimillion-dollar estate.
Derrick and Kevin Boseman lodged the petition in a Los Angeles court on behalf of their parents, Leroy and Carolyn Boseman. They ask the court to strip Taylor Simone Ledward of her role as estate administrator and to order the distribution of remaining assets.
The brothers allege that Ledward has failed to distribute the remaining assets to the family nearly four years after a 2022 court order requiring final distribution. According to the filing, she continues to exercise sole control over the assets, has not provided full transparency, and has kept the actor’s parents uninformed about the operations of a company managing Boseman’s name, image and related rights.
Chadwick Boseman died in August 2020 at age 43 after a private battle with colon cancer. He left no will. Court documents from 2022 valued the estate at approximately $3.8 million (£2.9 million). Under California intestacy law, the court awarded 50 percent to Taylor Simone Ledward, who was also appointed administrator, and 25 percent each to his parents.
The petition states that the situation is causing ongoing financial and emotional harm to the actor’s elderly parents and denies the family closure. Seeing Chadwick Boseman’s work continue to generate revenue without their involvement adds to their distress, the filing says.
In a public statement, Derrick and Kevin Boseman said the legal step was taken with their parents’ authority and that the family seeks clarity, accountability, and proper stewardship of their brother’s legacy.
“Our hope is that this process brings clarity, honours the court’s orders, and ensures the responsible stewardship of Chadwick’s legacy. We love our brother, and we remain committed to preserving his legacy with dignity, integrity, and respect.”
The court has not yet ruled on the petition. Taylor Simone Ledward has not publicly responded.
