The Member of Parliament for the Akwatia Constituency, Ernest Kumi, has died after a short illness. He passed away in the early hours of Monday, sources close to the family and Parliament have confirmed.
Ernest Kumi, a first-time MP, was elected to Parliament in the 2024 general elections on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). His tenure in Parliament, though brief, was eventful and marked by a legal challenge to his legitimacy as MP.
Following his narrow victory in the December 2024 polls, his main contender from the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Henry-Boakye Yiadom, petitioned the courts, alleging electoral irregularities in the collation of results.
