The Vice Chairman of the Ghana Culture Forum, Ahuma Bosco Ocansey, popularly known as Daddy Bosco, has urged Ghanaian artistes to focus on building lasting legacies rather than chasing hit songs.
Speaking as a media personality and music production lecturer, he noted that established artistes should not be pressured into competing with younger acts in a trend‑driven industry. He explained that audiences are fickle, making it difficult for any artiste to remain at the top indefinitely.
“One of the issues with the Ghanaian music industry is that we tend to applaud trending artistes more than legacy artistes. Shatta Wale is now a legacy artiste. Samini is a legacy artiste and so is Kwabena Kwabena. They don’t need to chase another hit,” he said.

Daddy Bosco pointed to the longevity of Kojo Antwi as an example, noting that he continues to headline major shows despite not releasing recent hit singles.
“Look at Kojo Antwi. When was the last time Kojo had a hit? Yet, he is still playing some of the biggest shows. I think sometimes, the artistes themselves have to appreciate that they have crossed over into legacy status. At that point, they should stop worrying so much about trends. That’s what I think. I may be wrong, but that’s my opinion,” he added.

He advised established acts to extend their brands beyond chart success and use their fame to create business ventures that can sustain them after retirement from music. He cited Okyeame Kwame as an example, explaining that after music he has explored other avenues including teaching and activism to strengthen his brand.
“Look at Okyeame Kwame, he has made the name, now what he’s doing is brand extension. Shatta is also doing well with Shaxi, he should continue with that and probably do more for the Shatta Wale brand,” Daddy Bosco said.
Other artistes have also diversified, including Reggie Rockstone with his Rockz Waakye food business and Tic with his pizza venture. He referenced American rapper Jay‑Z, who has built a business empire by founding, co‑owning or investing in brands across music, luxury Champagnes, fashion, technology and entertainment.
Daddy Bosco encouraged Ghanaian artistes to embrace the opportunities that come with longevity rather than remain preoccupied with whether their latest songs can replicate the success of their biggest hits.
