Rex Omar: Ghana & South Africa MoU to Serve Mutual Interests.

According to him, South African artists will be able to perform during events hosted in Ghana, such as Beyond The Return, Telecel Ghana Music Awards, and Afro-Future. On the other hand, Ghanaian artistes will have the chance to take on big stages in South Africa, including the South Africa Music Awards (SAMA).

Rex Omar, the Chief Executive Officer of the Black Star Experience (BSE), has disclosed that the signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Ghana and South Africa will serve the interests of both countries.

Rex Omar disclosed the information in an interview on Hitz FM on Sept 3, 2025, where he explained some excerpts of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by both countries. According to Rex Omar, one major component of the agreement focuses on a partnership between the two African countries in the entertainment and creative sectors.

“This Mou should be a win-win situation. It should balance. We can’t have only Ghanaians benefitting from South Africa, whiles South Africans don’t benefit from here,”

“We discussed Ghana Music Awards with them, so South African Artistes will perform at the Ghana Music Awards and vice versa.” he said. “Its not only music, fashion, photo exhibitions, comedy, movies and everything that has to do with the creative industry. So it’s a win-win for us,” he added.

Rex Omar noted that the signed agreement would be closely monitored to ensure its maximum impact.

The Black Star Experience secretariat, acting under the office of the President, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Arts Council of South Africa (NACSA) in late August 2025. The agreement aims to foster cultural ties and create opportunities within the creative industries of both countries. The MoU was signed at NACSA’s headquarters in Johannesburg, with Rex Omar representing Ghana and CEO of NACSA Julie Diphopha, signing on behalf of South Africa.
