“I will hold you to the two oaths you have sworn, particularly the one where you pledged to faithfully and conscientiously discharge the duties of a Member of Parliament,” he said.
Background
On August 1, 2025, the Speaker of Parliament, Bagbin, declared the Akwatia seat vacant following the July 7 demise of its former MP, Ernest Kumi. Subsequently, a by-election was organized by the electoral commission, where Bernard Bediako Baidoo won with 18,199 votes, beating the NPP’s Solomon Kwame Asumadu, who polled 15235 votes.
In Tamale Central, Professor Alidu Seidu was declared the winner after emerging as the sole candidate in the by-election, following the loss of life of the constituency’s former MP, Murtala Mohammed, in the August 5 helicopter crash.
This development now puts the NDC’s majority in the House a step further to 185 seats.
