Amazon Prime Video has announced that a television series adaptation of the popular video game God of War(G.O.W) is currently in development.
The cable network service acquired the rights to a live-action adaptation of the franchise in 2022, following the success Sony’s 2018 game, God of War and its sequel, God of War: Ragnarök.
The series is set to begin filming in March 2026, with pre-production currently underway in Vancouver. Casting auditions for Kratos and other lead characters are ongoing.

Amazon Prime’s God of War narrative will pick up from the latter installments of the video game, where Kratos, after defeating the Greek pantheon of gods, ventures into the Norse region, where he fathers a son, Atreus. Together, Kratos and his son embark on a journey to spread the ashes of his wife and Atreus’ mother, Faye, while facing off against Norse gods and deities in the nine realms.

The first two episodes will be directed by Frederick E.O. Toye (Shōgun, The Boys), alongside writer and executive producer Ronald D. Moore.
The show has been greenlit for two seasons, with 10 episodes each. Although no official release date has been announced, Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios are targeting a release in late 2027 or early 2028.
