The Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) has assured the family of the late gospel artiste Yaw Sarpong of its support, contributing GH¢500 towards his funeral expenses.
On February 19, 2026, MUSIGA President Bessa Simons, accompanied by representatives, presented the financial contribution to the family during the musician’s one-week observance at Asuofua Town Park in Kumasi.
In an address to the family and mourners, a representative of the union pledged financial assistance and government support to ensure a dignified farewell for Yaw Sarpong.

“We are donating GH¢500 to the family to support the funeral preparations. When the time comes, MUSIGA will stand firmly behind them to ensure our brother is given a befitting burial,” he said.
According to him, the leaders of the union are planning to make an appeal to prominent government officials to formally notify of the musician’s demise and seek financial assistance, to support the funeral ceremony.
“We are planning to visit the Flagstaff House to meet the Chief of Staff and the President, so that any support they can offer towards Yaw Sarpong’s funeral will help ensure he receives a truly memorable farewell,” he added.
The union, often criticized by Ghanaian musicians for not paying royaltiesand allocated benefits, faced backlash on social media.
Many deemed the GH¢500 donation insufficient and disrespectful to Yaw Sarpong’s legacy and his bereaved family.
The funeral committee announced that the final burial rites for Yaw Sarpong will take place on May 9 and 10, 2026, at Asuofua Town Park in the Ashanti Region.
