Don’t Blame TGMA – George Quaye Fires Back at Red Carpet Fashion Critics

Ace media personality and fashion critic George Quaye has strongly defended the organizers of the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA), asserting that the responsibility for the underwhelming fashion choices on the red carpet lies with the attendees themselves and not Charterhouse.

Ace media personality and fashion critic George Quaye has strongly defended the organizers of the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA), asserting that the responsibility for the underwhelming fashion choices on the red carpet lies with the attendees themselves and not Charterhouse.

Speaking during an interview on Hitz FM on Tuesday, May 12, Quaye addressed the widespread criticism that followed this year’s awards show. He made it clear that event organizers should not be held accountable for the fashion decisions made by individual guests and their stylists.

“How are you now blaming Edem for what George Quaye decided to wear?” he quizzed. “Somebody said Dr. Likee dressed like he was going to the washing bay. How is that Charterhouse’s problem?”

George Quaye emphasized that the blame game has been misplaced. He urged critics and fans to direct their feedback and disappointment toward the celebrities and their stylists who appeared on the red carpet.

“If you are uncomfortable with what people wore to the event, fight the people,” he stated firmly. “Sometimes we also ought to learn to know where to put the blame.”

Beyond defending the organizers, Quaye used the opportunity to challenge Ghanaian fashion designers. He encouraged them to take greater advantage of high-profile platforms like the TGMA by dressing more celebrities. According to him, such collaborations would not only improve the overall look of the red carpet but also provide valuable exposure and business opportunities for local designers.

George Quaye’s comments come after this year’s TGMA red carpet received mixed reactions online, with many netizens expressing disappointment over several questionable and underwhelming outfits.
