Sarkodie & Kweku Smoke Raise the Bar with Competitive New Single ‘Major League’

Sarkodie reflects on his longevity from his early days as a dedicated student of the rap game to his current legacy-building phase. He distinguishes himself from what he perceives as superficial competition while reinforcing his self-image as the undisputed king of Ghanaian rap. The song explores themes of success, legacy, and the mental fortitude required to remain at the top after 15 years in the game.

Ghanaian rap icon Sarkodie has released “Major League,” a new rap single featuring Kweku Smoke.

The record arrived on July 10, 2026, Sarkodie’s 41st birthday, serving as both a celebratory statement and a bold declaration of supremacy in the Ghanaian rap scene.

Produced by Hylander, “Major League” is built on a commanding sonic foundation of piercing fanfare horns, rapid hi-hats synths, and spatial kicks. Sarkodie uses the record to position himself firmly in the upper tier of Ghanaian hip-hop, delivering verses that are noticeably more aggressive and unfiltered than much of his recent output. He sheds his polished persona in favour of raw bars laced with braggadocio and thinly veiled jabs at his contemporaries.

Throughout the record, Sarkodie reflects on his longevity from his early days as a dedicated student of the rap game to his current legacy-building phase. He distinguishes himself from what he perceives as superficial competition while reinforcing his self-image as the undisputed king of Ghanaian rap.

Kweku Smoke provides a strong melodic contrast on the hook. Rather than rapping, he delivers a soaring, almost rock-influenced performance that adds emotional texture to the track. His contribution  echoes the song’s themes of dominance, doubt, and breaking into a higher level of success.

The release of “Major League” comes at a significant moment for Sarkodie. Having built a legendary career that spans from his early days as a battle rapper to becoming one of Africa’s most successful hip-hop exports, the veteran continues to challenge himself and the expectations placed upon him.
