Sarkodie Crowns ‘Mary’ as His Top Album

Sarkodie, Ghana’s award-winning rapper, has stated that his 2015 highlife album “Mary” is his best work till date.

During an Instagram Live session, a fan quizzed him about the inspiration behind the project, which was out of his comfort zone. Sarkodie revealed that the album was inspired by his late grandmother, who had requested highlife songs from him when he gained prominence in the music industry.

“My grandmother always wanted me to do live music, and I couldn’t do it while she was alive. So to honour her, I created a whole live album, which, to date, I think will be very difficult to beat,” Sarkodie stated.

The “Sarkcess Story” hitmaker noted that his favourite track from the 11-song album is “Always On My Mind” because the song carries some of his personal sentiments. He also mentioned that his biggest global song, “Adonai Remix,” which features Castro, is his biggest remix. Additionally, Sarkodie acknowledged that fans and music critics alike rank the album as one of his best musical offerings.

“If people had to go back to the best albums that I have done, they’ll definitely pull ‘Mary’ as number one.”

Sarkodie’s fourth studio album, “Mary”, which was released on Sept 12, 2015, is an 11 track live project with an impressive lineup of guest artistes, including Obrafuor, Efya, Chase, Mugeez, Akwaboah, and the legendary highlife musician Pat Thomas. The blend of highlife and rap combined with the talents of these artists, has cemented “Mary” as a standout in Sarkodie’s discography. The album is set to celebrate its 10-year anniversary this year.
