Ghanaian singer Wendy Shay has opened up about a discouraging encounter she had early in her career with a prominent figure in the Ghanaian music industry.
In a candid interview with media personality Kafui Dey, Wendy Shay revealed that someone influential told her label boss, Bullet, that she would never succeed in the music business. Shockingly, the comment was made in her presence.
“I was there and someone, I’m not going to mention the person’s name, said it to my face, it is not going to work,’” she recounted.

Rather than being broken by the harsh words, Wendy Shay remained confident in her abilities. She encouraged her label boss not to be discouraged by the crude words and to trust his own instincts.
“I told Bullet not to listen to the person, that I’ll be a hit,” she said.
The conversation later turned to the heavy online scrutiny Wendy Shay faced after her rise to fame. She explained that her bold personality and unique music style often made her a target for bullying and clickbait content on social media.
“If you are someone like Wendy Shay, if they say something about you, it’s going to give them that traction. They’ll use you as bait, whether it’s negative or positive,” she explained. “But I think now, people are beginning to realize that you don’t have to believe everything you see on social media.”
When asked directly if she felt bullied, Wendy Shay responded without hesitation.
“I didn’t feel bullied. I was bullied,” she stated firmly.
She pointed out that much of the criticism stemmed from unfair comparisons to another admired female artist, as well as the fact that her name consistently generated attention and engagement online.
Despite the challenges, Wendy Shay revealed that she often chose silence as her response to trolls and negative press rather than engaging in public arguments. This approach, she believes, helped her focus on her craft and build a successful career on her own terms.
