The Police have arrested a 36-year-old East Legon businessman for operating an online platform used to distribute explicit videos of women who were filmed without their consent.
The suspect, identified as Joshua Kojo Anane Boateng, was picked up on May 6, 2026, during a joint operation conducted by the Cyber Crime Unit of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) and the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI).
He is said to reside at East Legon in Accra.
Speaking at a media briefing on Tuesday, May 12, CID Director-General COP Lydia Yaako Donkor said investigations led officers to a Telegram channel allegedly run by the suspect under the name “VIP Sleep Fetish 2025.”
According to the CID boss, the suspect allegedly used alprazolam, commonly known as Xanax, to sedate unsuspecting women before sexually abusing them, recording the acts, and sharing the videos online without the victims’ knowledge or consent.
Under section 67 of Ghana’s Cyber Security law, sharing intimate videos or photos of persons without their consent can lead to three years in prison if convicted.
Police also said electronic devices believed to contain evidence connected to the case have been retrieved as investigations continue.
The CID has assured the public that further updates will be provided as investigations progress.
