Veteran Ghanaian gospel musician Grace Ashly has revealed that people often flood her with requests for financial help whenever the Black Stars qualify for the FIFA World Cup.
The creator of the popular “Black Stars Cheer Song” opened up about the issue during an appearance on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z. She explained that acquaintances and fans frequently reach out for money, under the assumption that she is cashing out heavily from her cheer songs for the national team.
“Anytime the Black Stars qualify for the World Cup, that is when people start asking me for financial help,” she said. “I’m a celebrity, so people depend on me. They assume I have made money and come asking for assistance.”

Grace Ashly, however, disclosed that she has never received any payment from the Ghana Football Association (GFA) for the multiple inspirational songs she has produced for the national team over the years. Despite their widespread popularity, she says she has only received verbal appreciation.
“I was never worried about the Anas exposé because from 2006 until now, Kwesi Nyantakyi never paid me a single coin for any of the songs I produced for the national team,” she stated. “I dare the former GFA president to either deny or confirm my claims.”
She reiterated that even though her songs were used extensively for promotion by the GFA, she was never compensated.
“I would give them my songs, they would play them, but I was never paid. The only thing I received was praise for my efforts.”
Despite these experiences, Grace Ashly remains a passionate supporter of the Black Stars. Her continued willingness to create music for the team highlights her deep patriotism and dedication to Ghanaian football, even without financial reward.
