The government has declared Friday, July 10, and Saturday, July 11, as National General Cleaning Days across seven regions affected by the devastating June 29 floods, which claimed about 13 lives and destroyed more than 7,000 households.
The announcement was made in a statement issued on Monday, July 6, by government spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu, who described the cleanup as a critical national intervention.
“The President has accordingly directed that all government appointees, including ministers of state, CEOs, Members of Parliament, Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs), and Heads of Public Institutions, must step out of their offices, pick up tools, and lead the clean up efforts alongside members of their respective communities,” the statement said.
Last week, President John Mahama directed the Finance Ministry to release about GHC 300 million to finance flood-related mitigation measures.
